  (1) the traction of the belt conveyor is transmitted through the friction between the driving drum and the belt, so the belt must be tensioned by the tension device, so that the belt has a certain initial tension at the separation of the drum.

  (2) the belt runs on the idler together with the cargo. The belt is not only a traction mechanism, but also a bearing mechanism. There is no relative movement between the cargo and the belt, which eliminates the friction resistance between the belt and the cargo in operation. Because the roller is equipped with rolling bearing, the belt and roller are rolling friction, so the running resistance is greatly reduced, thus reducing the power consumption and increasing the transportation distance. For a belt conveyor, its traction transmission capacity is determined by the belt tension, the wrapping angle of the belt on the driving drum and the friction coefficient between the belt and the driving drum. In order to ensure that the belt of the belt conveyor does not slip on the transmission drum and runs normally, corresponding measures should be taken according to different situations in production practice. To improve the transmission ability of traction force, we can start from the following aspects:

  (1) increase the tension (initial tension). In the operation of the belt conveyor, the belt should be elongated, resulting in the decrease of the traction force. Therefore, according to the situation, the belt should be properly tensioned by the tension device to increase the belt tension, so as to improve the traction force.

  (2) increase the friction coefficient. The specific measures are as follows: protect the wood liner or rubber liner covered on the transmission drum to increase the friction coefficient; on the other hand, reduce the coal water to prevent the reduction of friction coefficient.

  (3) increase the enclosure angle. Due to the poor working conditions and large traction, the underground belt conveyor usually adopts double drum drive to increase the wrapping angle.
